Grosse Savanne

Sammy was scheduled to compete in a catfish tournament last weekend. A chain of unfortunate events forced his team to cancel. He was pretty bummed, but then he thought of this place...

This time last year Sammy and Diana packed up the whole family and took us red fish and flounder fishing. Read here. We had such a good time, so Sammy organized another trip for this past weekend.

We headed to Lake Charles, LA after work on Friday. EARLY Saturday we made the 40 min drive to Grosse Savanne. We loaded the boats and headed out in the marsh.

First fish! A nice red fish caught by Robby at the weir.

Speckled trout

Sammy and Matthew L. finding the perfect spot.

Red fish (Amanda and Diana couldn't come because they had plans back home. I caught this one in their honor :)

Flounder

Robby's and my pile - it was a GOOD day!
(limited out on red fish (10) and flounder (20) and caught 7 speckled trout)

Thank you SO much Sammy for coordinating the trip! Now I can't wait to eat...
We headed back home with 30 red fish, 40 flounder, and 20 speckled trout!

Here is a picture of Allie the Alligator (Sara named her). The marsh is FULL of them and this is one of the smaller ones. Matthew and his guide Monty took a few pictures of some 10 footers enjoying the fish remains. Spooky.

Robby got some Astro's tickets from a vendor at work for the Sunday afternoon game, so we asked Heath and Jessica to join us. I was too busy chatting with Jess for 99% of the game, so no pictures. Jess did take this one of us on the way out of the park. GRAVEDIGGER!

The 'Stros beat the Reds 4-0!
